Here's some fun facts:

  1. In 1776 the Continental Congress voted to adopt the Deceleration of Independence from the British Monarchy. Originally voted on July 2, 1776, but then revised and final approval was July 4, 1776. That was 240 years ago. Our country is relatively young compared to many European countries, and other countries around the world.

  1. Two of the Founding Fathers died 50 years after the signing of the Deceleration of Independence on July 4, 1826. Who was it? Answer: Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, for $500.

  2. One of the great military leaders that helped the Continental Army become a real army that would defeat the British was known to be a gay man, Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. In his biography they said it was an open secret. I never understood what an "open secret" was. It's either a secret or not a secret. Which is is? From LGBTQ Nation, "Meet the gay man who actually won America her independence."

  3. In 1965, a group of gay and lesbian activists from NY, DC, and Philadelphia helped to start the foundation for the LGBT civil rights movement by demonstrating in front of Independence Hall On July 4th from 1965 - 69 in support of gay rights, called "Annual Reminders." The Stonewall Riots was tipping point for the LGBT community and the watershed moment when LGBT activists made a monumental push for LGBT rights in 1969.

  4. Finally, there is much mayhem in the month around July 4th, that occurs, approximately 230 people will have some kind of fireworks-related injury that will bring them to the emergency room. Just remember, don't shoot your guns off in the air, don't stick your face into a firework or hold firecrackers in your hands when you're lighting them. Have a safe Independence Day Celebration. Cheers!
